The Cathedral

We are all descendants of the “Peoples of the Book”, and we belong to the rural and magical world heritage of humanity. We know how to remove warts, staunch a burn, lift ill fortune, cut away pain, and we place this gift at the service of those who call upon us, without asking the slightest social recognition in return. We are humanists, altruists, surgeons of the soul, samurai of energy, and — until the hour comes to pass on the sacred knowledge — we defend “our secrets” and our “fixed rituals” as others defend their honour or their homeland.

In a world where individualism and profit are raised into absolute principles, the charmer-healers, guardians of values, act with no notion of gain. They answer the call without flinching and give of their time without counting it. They share their energy and “their secrets” as discreetly as possible, without publicity, to improve the health of the sick, and even to heal them. They are the seeds of hope that soothe the hearts of those who believe in them. When all seems lost, they are not afraid to rush the net to save the final set.

When you visit a practitioner of “folk medicine”, rest assured: you are not turning your back on the age, you are merely taking the road that runs parallel to that of conventional medicine. “Beyond medicine, there are other approaches. These traditional healers work within the “true” and within “being-to-being communication”. When they feel a doubt, a frailty, or when they lose their footing because they are called upon too often, they remember the Berber adage that says: “When you do not know where you are going, look back to where you came from.” The secret they whisper is an invisible and divine treatment, a reassuring and gentle balm, like a mother's breath upon the grazed knee of a young child after a fall.

Secret knowledge comes from God: “Omnis scientia a deo.” Faith consists in believing, and to believe is not to know. To have faith is to take doubt into oneself — the catalyst of faith. To advance and progress in our secrets, faith is often put to the test. We must accept uncertainty and make it our own. Certainty is fundamentalism and idolatry; it rests on things already acquired, and it makes the one “who knows” stagnate. To doubt is to question oneself, to surpass oneself and to grow. We are tightrope walkers; we fear the fall and a task poorly done. Trust in the Hereafter is the net stretched beneath our feet, so that we may practise our art without asking ourselves too many questions.

We fight evil with good (white magic) each time our services are called for, aware that life is but a butterfly's dream. When our hour has struck, no secret can act to keep us in this world. But when nothing is written in the great divine Book, the healer may intervene and ask the Saints or God for assistance, to hasten the healing or to learn the right protocol of healing to save the person.

We, heirs of the ovates (holders of sacred knowledge), pass through time and the ages, making the possible and the impossible, the real and the imaginary, dwell together. We carry within us chivalric ideals and we lay claim to our role as “witnesses of the past”. In a world that moves too fast, where so much escapes our control, where tomorrows are uncertain, people need refuge-values, ancestral roots, to find a second wind and take shelter. Faced with the atheism of the future, they turn quite naturally towards ancestral traditions. The traditional practitioners of the 21st century wish to build a therapeutic diversity, to create with conventional medicine a medical pluralism, and to throw a bridge of light between science and tradition.

As Luc Montagnier so aptly puts it: “when a phenomenon is unexplained, if it truly exists, there is no point in denying it. Many scientists make the mistake of refusing what they do not understand.”

Magnetisers, charmers, healers and lifters of spells will, in this century and in the centuries to come, go on drawing smiles, provoking disdain, fear or admiration. But all will remain deaf alike to attacks and to praise, and faithful to their convictions, for they all bear the same energy in their hearts that feeds their ministry: universal Love.

The charmer-healers are perhaps idealists or dreamers, but I think, like Oscar Wilde, that “a map of the world that does not include Utopia is not worth even glancing at”. So let yourself be drawn into the game, and allow your soul to discover new dimensions.

Today's paranormal will be tomorrow's “normal” world. It is all only a matter of time. You are the protagonists of your life, the actors of the “present world” and the scriptwriters of the “world to come”. The future is a blank parchment. It is yours to write! Einstein said: “In life the cards are dealt in advance, but with a given hand, each of us can play a different game.”
